Hi, I’m Andy – LZ2HM.
I live in Sofia (KN12QP), the capital of Bulgaria, although I was born in Dryanovo (KN23SA), a small town in the central part of the country.
My father, Steve – LZ4SA, still lives there, and he was the person who introduced me to Amateur Radio and showed me my very first steps in this great hobby.
Amateur Radio has been a major part of my life for more than 43 years, and I have enjoyed every minute of it. Over the years, Ham Radio has given me the opportunity to meet many great people, make lifelong friends, travel, take part in contests and DXpeditions, and constantly experiment with new equipment and technologies.
In addition to my Bulgarian licence LZ2HM, I also hold the U.S. Amateur Radio licence WX7AA and the Cyprus licence 5B4AMX. In recent years, I have been particularly active from Cyprus under 5B4AMX.
My main interests in Amateur Radio are DXing, Contesting, DXpeditions, station building, antennas, and VHF/UHF/SHF activities.
For contesting, I use several contest callsigns depending on the country and location: LZ9A from Bulgaria, C4E from Cyprus (ex. H25A), and WX7AA from the United States.
I am also a member of several major contest clubs and stations, from which you may often hear me on the air: LZ5R – Milara Contest Club, P33W – Paphos Forest Contest Club, and K1LZ – Contest Station in Jonesboro, Maine, USA.
I am also a member of BFRA (Bulgarian Federation of Radio Amateurs) and CARS (Cyprus Amateur Radio Society).
One of the things I enjoy most about contesting is teamwork. Over the years, I have had the pleasure of operating as part of many different contest teams and from a variety of well-known club and contest stations.
You may therefore also have heard me operating from stations such as LZ9W (LZ1KPO), C4I (5B4AIF), P3R (5B4PRC), B1Z, B7M (BD7NN), B7P (BY7PP), 6Y0W, and others.
For me, contesting is not only about the score. It is about working together as a team, sharing experience, improving station performance, meeting other operators and, of course, enjoying the competition.
Over the years, I have achieved several major amateur radio awards, including DXCC, WAS, WAZ, 5-Band DXCC, and DXCC on 6 metres.
Outside Amateur Radio, my other interests include computers and electronics, rally cars, fishing, travelling and tourism.
Professionally, I spent 23 years with Deltacom Electronics Ltd. from 2000 to 2023, working in several roles including Radio Communications R&D Engineer, Purchasing Manager, and Marketing & Research Manager.
In 2024, I joined SMA Innovations Ltd. as Managing Director, a position I held until mid-2026.
Since mid-2026, I have been the Managing Director of RoboSpa Ltd..
On this website, you can find more information about my Amateur Radio activities, equipment, antennas, VHF/UHF/SHF projects, contesting from Bulgaria and Cyprus, DXpeditions, contest teams, station projects and other technical experiments.
I hope you enjoy looking around the site, and maybe we will meet somewhere on the bands.
See you on the air!
73,
Andy – LZ2HM
